Artist Statement

I was born and raised in a busy port town in Klang, Malaysia. I started receiving a formal art education in 2009 in the Malaysian Institute of Art. In 2018, I graduated from Chelsea College of Artwith a Masters of Art in Fine Art. I would describe my practice as intermedia as it spans from drawings, sculpture, installation to sound.

Recently, soundscapes and other background sounds are elements that I have been incorporating into my work. I've been focusing on using sound as a medium and equating its value to more traditional media such as paintings and sculptures.

My work revolves around the sociopolitical atmosphere in the location which I am in with a focus on where my heart is, Malaysia.

I continuously explore topics such as my identity as a Malaysian being in a foreign land, abuse of power in politics, relationships and prejudice between living beings in the 21st century and mental health. Written media, words of mouth and dialogues with others are often the beginning of my creative process which would later span into finding the proper medium of expression.

As an art practitioner, I have tried continuously to produce artworks accessible to everyone by expressing my thoughts in relatable terms. I create artworks with the intention of inviting the audience to engage in dialogues about the subject matter.
