Why Sounds?

During a tutorial, while doing my MA, I was asked about my fascination of using sounds as my new medium instead of sticking to my regular drawings.

I find sounds are more accessible than my drawings. And the more I use it as a medium, the more I enjoyed making works. The funny thing about sound is that it’s not a direct narrative. It’s extremely subjective.

One listens and reflects the sounds and without much guidance, the feelings one has towards the sound is invoked from within. Say for example, if a person listens to the sound of the waves and felt extremely relaxed, that does not mean another person would feel the same way. Someone may feel fear instead.

Hence, these new projects which I’m working on with sounds are completed within the viewers themselves. But it’s also interesting (for me) to find so many different reactions one has towards the presented sounds.

But ultimately, the message is there. It’s only through the combination of texts, visual and audio representations that I can get my message across.

It’s still a long way to go, but I can see that it’s an exciting journey both for me and my viewers.

Thanks for reading and have a nice day!
